Life Death Dinner

Día de los Muertos Community Table

On our second annual Life Death Dinner, guests gathered with Death Doula and Chef Teri Portugal for an evening of remembrance, storytelling, and shared nourishment inspired by the traditions of Día de los Muertos and the spirit of Death Over Dinner.

Sacred Gathering:
The evening opened with a warm welcome into our community space, honoring the belief that during Día de los Muertos, the veil between worlds becomes thin. Guests arrived carrying offerings—photographs, flowers, notes, and tokens of love—to place on the communal ofrenda adorned with candles and marigolds.

A Feast of Memory:
Chef Teri prepared a lovingly crafted meal designed as both nourishment and offering, inviting guests to slow down, savor, and remember. The table became a place to honor ancestors, share stories, and explore death as a natural and meaningful part of life’s cycle.

Highlights:
Collective Remembrance: Guests contributed personal items to the ofrenda, creating a shared tapestry of memory and honoring loved ones who have passed.
Guided Reflection: Through gentle conversation and storytelling, participants explored themes of grief, love, and ancestral connection.
Community Connection: The evening cultivated a sense of belonging and support, reminding everyone that in remembrance there is life, and in grief there is love.
